GOALS (1 - 2)by Dr. Ahmed Adam
“To Allaah we belong, and to Him is our return” (Al Baqarah 2:156)
Introduction The above verse beautifully encapsulates the simple yet voluminous answer to the question “what is the meaning of life?” that has plagued non-Muslim philosophers for centuries. The verse gives meaning to our day-to-day existence in this world and thus simultaneously gives us direction, comfort, solace, anticipation, hope, courage and fear .
We usually utter the above verse during times of difficulty or when we are informed that someone has died. However, life is such that we usually get into our daily routines fairly quickly and it is seldom that we take the time to ponder about our existence or about our life in this world. We take life as it comes. Furthermore, studies have shown that the majority of people fail to set any type of goals in their life and hence drift through the oceans of life like a raft on an uncharted stormy sea.

Full Article: Islamic Months & Calendar
In the Holy Quran we read:
| "They ask thee about the new moons. Say, These are means for measuring time for people's affairs and for the Pilgrimage" (Holy Quran, Ch. 2 V. 190)
| | | | Islam has made use of both the lunar and solar system of measuring times. Where worship is to be performed in different parts of the day the solar system of reckoning time is used as in the five daily Prayers or for the beginning and breaking of the fast, and where worship is to be completed within a particular month or part thereof, the lunar system is used, as in the determination of the month or part thereof, the lunar system is used, as in the determination of the month of fasting or fixing the time of Hajj or other festivals. |
Full Article: Straightforward Prophet, yet a zig-zagging Islamic movement
Muslims around the world recite wonderful ayaat of the Qur’an in beautiful voices. Almost every khutba, lecture and speech refers to Allah’’s Prophet (saw). The Qur’an itself became a human reality via the life of this dearest Prophet. There are in the Qur’an ayaat that refer directly to Muhammad (saw) as a hero and a model for emulation: "Verily, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent exemplar for everyone who looks forward [with hope and awe] to Allah and the Last Day, and is continuously conscious of Allah." (Surah al-ahzab verse 21)
Full Article: The Essence of Hajj
By Ayub A. Hamid The significance of Hajj as a pillar of Islam is quite evident from the reward this act of worship brings to its performer. As has been reported from the Messenger of Allaah Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam, the person performing the Hajj is forgiven and purified as if he is a newborn baby. Although its importance and formalities are generally known and talked about, its essence, spirit and its impact on a performer’s behaviour and personality is not generally understood or remembered. The point we should ponder over is why Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aala and his messenger, Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam granted Hajj so much importance. What is the most significant aspect of this worship? Is it performance of certain rites and rituals, the special dress worn, and visitation of certain place that make it the most rewarding act of worship? Or, like other acts or worship in Islam, is it the changes that Hajj makes in the performer’s personality, attitude and outlook that are the essence of Hajj?

Allaah says... |
 |
Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that ye can see; is firmly established on the throne (of authority); He has subjected the sun and the moon (to his Law)! Each one runs (its course) for a term appointed. He doth regulate all affairs, explaining the signs in detail, that ye may believe with certainty in the meeting with your Lord.-- Surah 13:2 |
